New Sports Style

It’s time to give your 2009 fitness regime a serious kick-start with some stylish togs.

New fitness gear can provide the motivation you need to pound the pavements, hit the pool or tackle the gym with gusto.

What’s more, sporty style is having a moment on the catwalks too. Gucci, Chloe and Preen all showed off sexy sportswear-inspired pieces in their spring/summer collections.

Proving her designer sportswear is practical as well as stylish, Stella McCartney also enlisted the help of Olympics Team GB to model her new S/S09 collection for Adidas.

Whatever your activity, whether you want to shed the post-Christmas calories or keep up with the hottest catwalk looks, sportswear is where it’s at.

Emma Matthews, womenswear buyer for JD Sports, says comfort is key.

“To make the most of your money, try to buy outfits that are multi-functional and can be used for a number of activities.

“A versatile kick flare is a good investment and you can always update your outfit with a less costly new tank.”

Here’s how to pick up the fashion pace for the new year in sporty chic.

Sportswear for active adults goes hi-tech as Vital eco-wear redefines fit-for-purpose design

Vital eco-wear is developing innovative fabrics incorporating state-of-the-art, bio-functional fibers to produce garments that introduce a new level of fit-for-purpose sportswear. Employing techniques based on nano-technology, computerized body mapping, and the textile industry's latest equipment for seamless manufacture, Vital eco-wear sportswear is designed to meet the particular needs of the type of sport engaged in, reflected in its 4 product lines. But more than this, each garment incorporates different combinations of fibers and knits to respond to the varying needs of different parts of the body. "Whether the particular body area needs extra support, enhanced stretch, or extra ventilation, the garment will be designed to seamlessly match every need," says Talya Hanan, textile expert andVital eco-wear CEO and founder.

Fabrics custom designed for performance

Each ofVital eco-wear's 4 product lines - Yoga & More, Workout & Fitness, Outdoor Action, and Winter Sports - feature custom designed fabrics:
Yoga & More garments are made from ecologically-friendly fabric eco-DEOSOFT - a super-soft fabric containing natural bamboo fibers with anti-bacterial properties that keep the garment naturally fresh and deodorized, while the fibers' micro-gaps let the skin breath. The new Workout & Fitness fabric, eco-COMFORMANCE, consists of bamboo, micro-polypropylene and elastin, offering high performance with enhanced comfort. In addition to the natural fibers' anti-bacterial properties and micro-gaps that let the skin breathe, extra elastin gives these garments the needed elasticity for stretch and control. Outdoor Action garments are made from eco-AERODRY - an eco-friendly fabric based on recycled materials, using activated carbon from coconut shells. This gives the fabric high performance properties including wicking, or drawing moisture away from the skin for quick evaporation on the fabric's surface, odor absorption, and even natural UV protection. eco-AERODRY is designed to keep the wearer cool, dry and fresh. To meet the needs of Winter Sports, geared toward a more extreme form of outdoor sports, Vital eco-wear developed eco-THERMAL, a fabric consisting of BeCool™ polyamide, polypropylene and elastin. In addition to its advanced temperature regulating properties keeping the body dry and warm, Winter Sports garments include seamlessly built-in areas of extra protection and 3D stretch.

With a further range of innovative fabrics under development, Vital eco-wear plans to incorporate advanced copper fibers that offer skin-soothing and enhancing properties, with further fabric development even looking at options for medication-delivering fibers.

The first to target today's growing population of active adults, Vital eco-wear offers solutions that meet the sportswear needs of this market niche, while satisfying their sophistication regarding advanced apparel. The combination of computerized body-mapping and seamless manufacture allows Vital eco-wear to produce a line of uniquely customized sportswear combining bio-functional fabrics with optimal user comfort. Vital eco-wear looks forward to redefining standards of high performance, fit-for-purpose sportswear.

Lacoste Spring 2009 Clothing Collection

Check out Lacoste Spring 2009 collection showcased at the New York’s Fashion week!

The runway was invaded by arrogant models in catsuits or shorts with hoods in aggressive reds, oranges, yellows and apple green, as if the house’s crocodile logo was prepared to use its jaws to conquer a bigger share of the wealthy 18-21 market.

Blonde model twins, body suits and checkerboard bikinis - Lacoste's crocodile had a good day. These designs are inspired by chirping, olive tress, cool breezes and couples by the pool and a creation of designer Christophe Lemaire. Think dusty pink and clay-colored maxi-striped menswear-style button down shirts, fabric Grecian sandals, white cotton pants with white short-sleeve tunics topped off with rolled turbinettes.

It looks great, bold and viciously sporty. A clothing collection thumbs up for me.

Cole Haan, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NIKE, Inc., announced Maria Sharapova as a lead collaborator and the face of Cole Haan Sporting, a new sports clothing collection for Spring 2009, rooted in sport and remixed with fashion.

Cole Haan Sporting stakes out fresh territory with a new, dynamic pairing of Cole Haan's authentic craftsmanship and Nike's sports innovation. The collection introduces new technologies like Flywire which build on the successful Nike Air franchise by recasting them into fashion-forward designs.

Maria Sharapova, 21, is a triple Grand Slam winner who has a longstanding passion for style. She will step into the role of collaborator for the Fall 2009 season.

"Cole Haan Sporting proves that fashion and technology can work together to change the way women think about and wear sport-inspired product," said Sharapova. "I look forward to working with Cole Haan to bring new innovations to this leading fashion brand with such a rich history."

Success of the Olympics Sparks Sports Clothing Sales

The Olympics has sparked sports clothing sales despite a sagging economy. The British Olympic team success has inspired consumers to purchase sports and fitness clothing and equipment. Households have been cutting back on spending and only purchasing necessities which has resulted in declining retail sales for durable goods and non-essential house wares. But the Olympics have reversed a downward trend that has lasted for 3 months.

The Experian national retail footfall index actually rose in August by 3.9% when compared to July. The 3.9% reflects an increase of .4% for the prior 12 months. Consumers have been purchasing equipment such as bicycles and exercise equipment. They have also been purchasing fitness clothing including t-shirts, shorts, polo shirts and sweatshirts. Much of the buying has been done online. Online purchases for all purchases have increased by 3.5% from this same time last year compared to this year, whereas sports and fitness online purchases increased 36%.

This increase was welcomed by fitness equipment and clothing retailers who are now hoping the trend continues. An event such as cycling, which was handily won by the British cycling team, has inspired consumers to purchase bicycles. The sales of the BMX are up. Robin Goad of Hitwise said, "It is likely that shopping visits to out-of-town locations were helped by the resurgent interest in sports and fitness products."

There is speculation that retail sales in general will continue to fall as a result of economic conditions. But sports and fitness retailers are hoping the spirit of the Olympics will live on in terms of increased sales in fitness equipment and clothing. Many sports clothing items are inexpensive and so are not as subject to consumer spending cutbacks. Retailers will be anxiously watching to see how consumers respond to credit crunches over the next 12 months.

Serena and Sharapova US Open Clothing Collection by Nike

The US Open attracts a large number of tennis lovers every year to the heart of Queens NY. Whether it be homegrown New Yorkers or Hollywood’s finest…everyone falls victim to the lavish green court of the US Open. Nike athletes Maria Sharapova & Serena Williams have developed new fresh looks for this years U.S. Open. Sharapova’s "Day & Night" dresses feature key materials that we chosen for moisture management, comfort, and strength. The Sharapova U.S. Night Dress is made up of two layers, which feature a sleek & yet body forming lightweight jersey. Leaving the outer layer, permanently pleated and features a Dri-FIT premium lightweight jersey, allowing the dress to be fluid with controlled movement. Taking cues from the red carpet and the runway, Maria’s color palette for the night dress is black adorned with gold accents.

As for the Sharapova U.S. Day Dress, it provides world-class support with a bodice fitted top, black stretch velvet waist details, sheer conchord fabric overlay in the skirt to add depth and movement, and a black seamless short, letting female tennis athletes elevate their game without sacrificing freedom of movement or fashion. As for my girl Serena Williams, her ensembles during the US Open are always a topic for discussion in my camp. Seeing as though Serena is a "show stopper" in every sense of the word her U.S. Open Collection is nothing to play games with! Especially the Serena Court Day Dress which is currently available for around $100, features the same Dri-Fit material and is perfect for any athlete.

An authentic women's sports clothing

While watching the television last night, I happened to switch the channel to a replay show of woman's basketball event between the team USA and team Australia. Well it's been very obvious, while Lisa Leslie (one of the famous WNBA player) and the rest of USA Team pouring out their best, that this will be a medal for USA, another this captures my mind and made me scramble and think to create this one... It's the very sexy sports outfit of the Australian team.

It's been my first time to see a basketball team clothing up with this authentic sportswear. They were able to surpass the typical 'tomboy' look for basketball. With this uniform they're for sure look more outstanding , more feminine and, I will admit it, they look like bomb and hot girls playing with this great clothing! Plus it really complements with their light color that's why I was awed by their look. But nevertheless I am still grateful to see such a wonderful women playing with wonderful sports outfit with the not so feminine sports.

I wonder how about the USA team? Why don't they try to have this kind of sportswear. I feel it will be comfortable for them.

New sports attire of New Orleans Hornets unveiled

The New Orleans Hornets new uniforms

The Hornets unveiled updated logo modifications and new team uniforms. The new designs were created in collaboration with the Hornets, the NBA and adidas, and are inspired by the emblems, colors and textures that New Orleanians and people around the world associate with the city of New Orleans. With pinstripes, darker colors and "Mardi Gras gold", New Orleans Hornets forwards Morris Peterson and Julian Wright walked across a raised stage Wednesday, modeling the new uniforms during a news conference at a French Quarter jazz club.

The New Orleans Hornets new uniforms

Hornets also unveiled some new logos. The first one below is the Fleur de Bee that was introduced last season. The second logo is an updated version of the traditional Hornets logo, while the third is "NOLA horn" featuring the city's abbreviation and a Mardi Gras gold trumpet.

New Orleans Hornets logos

The Hornets uniforms maintain consistency with the logo identity, using the same logos, fonts and colors. “New Orleans” will still be featured on the front of the home and away jerseys, making the Hornets one of only two NBA teams to wear their city’s name on the front of both jerseys. The “Fleur-de-bee” is featured on the side of the shorts and on the center back of the neck of the jersey. The NOLA horn is placed on the back of the shorts. The home (white) and road (Creole blue) uniforms also feature pinstripes, which provide a bit of jazz flair as well as pay tribute to the 20 years the Hornets franchise has been in existence. In addition, the team’s second road uniform has been retired.

The entire launch event was featured on Hornets.com in a live stream. New merchandise featuring the new colors and logos will be available immediately at the Hornets Nest team store as well as online at NBAStore.com.

3rd design in team history

The new uniforms are the third design in team history. The last uniform change was before the 1996-97 season. The Timberwolves' uniform design had remained unchanged for 12 seasons.

Timberwolves also unveiled a 15-foot high replica jersey that will travel throughout the state at team events and will be signed by Wolves fans. The jersey will be hung from the rafters of Target Center on Opening Night in celebration of the start of the team's 20th season. Speedo LZR Racer - a swimwear for beating records

Speedo Sports Clothing

Speedo's new LZR Racer swimsuit has caused a respectable amount of controversy for itself in the run-up to the Olympics. The innovative, NASA-aided design cinches up on a swimmer and promises to have a:

10 % less drag then fastskin fsII
5% less drag than fastskin fs pro
4% faster in starts, springts and turns compared to fastskinR FS-PRO
5% better oxygen efficiency compared to a normal training suit

48 world records were set this year before the olympics, 44 of those wearing the suit. And the technology inside this swimwear has really impressing everybody espescially on this ongoing Beijing Olympics. 8 records have fallen, and that number is certain to grow.

I happened to watch the Olympic games and I was astound by the results. Heat after heat, new record has getting beaten. And as I watch the event, majority of the swimmers are wearing this swim wear.

For details, these are the technology inside Speedo LZR Racer:

LZR PULSE

The suit is constructed from Speedo's unique LZR Pulse fabic. Ultra lightweight, powerful and water repellent, LZR Pulse reduces muscle oscillation and skin vibration through powerful compression. This fast drying fabric also offers low skin friction drag.

LZR PANELS

Ultra thin, ultra powerful, ultra low drag LZR Panels, embedded at strategic points on the swimmer's body deliver optimum streamlined shape and drag reduction.

CORE STABILIZER

The internal Core Stabilizer supports and holds the swimmer in a corset-like grip and helps them to maintain the best position in the water for longer.

BONDED SEAMS

The LZR RACER suit is the world's first fully bonded bodysuit. Ultrasonically welded, bonded seams create a perfectly smooth yet flexible streamlined surface.

ULTRA LOW PROFILE ZIP

Bonded into the suit to further maintain a smooth surface shape.

UNIQUE 3D THREE-PIECE PATTERN

Dynamically engineered to optimise the shape of the swimmer

Olympics exhibition of fashion in sports clothing

The much awaited start of Beijing Olympics sparked yesterday and it's indeed quite marvelous. But aside from the competing players and the aim to reach for the gold let's still look at another part of this event which also plays an important role - the fashion in sports clothing in this Olympic Games. Different sportswear and the opening ceremony dresses to some extent reflect the various characteristics of each country.

We can find a variety of culture and customs through each outfit. The inspiration for many designs comes from national flags, especially their colors.

Italy

Italy deserves its reputation for being a fashion hot spot. I have always appreciated Dolce & Gabbana's designs. Its simple yet stylish look impresses many.

Australia

Their crisp, dark colors show their professional side, while the tie and scarf design depicts an elegant grace.

Germany

The German team does not wear black red and yellow – the colors of their flag – but a tasteful and classic gray and white combo.

France

Also known for its fashion sense, France keeps the Opening Ceremony bright with a hint of red.

Spain

Combining such flashy colors as yellow and red can be a challenge, but the Spanish excel, lighting up the Ceremony in the colors of their flag.

Greece

Greece chooses a summery and delicate white to grace the Opening Ceremony.

Ralph Lauren Olympics' Sports Clothing

It's not easy looking good when you're sweating up a storm. Just ask Olympic athletes. Not that fashion's the point. Still, it's always interesting to spot champions who manage to exhibit not just grace under pressure but style, too.

It's not enough to watch these athletes. We want to look like them. And feel, in some small way, like we're part of the team. This year we can - thanks to designers like Ralph Lauren, who've created gear for athletes in Beijing, plus versions for us weekend warriors back home. Here are some of the best.Lauren's looks

U.S. athletes hit the Beijing stadium Friday in tailored classics from Polo Ralph Lauren, an official outfitter of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team. Fans here can join in wearing knit sweater vests, track jackets, hoodies and an array of crisp polos decorated with flag patches (USA, Great Britain, Italy), racing stripes or - our favorite - Chinese lettering (it says "Beijing"). Available in adult and children's sizes at Polo Ralph Lauren, East Hampton and Manhattan, and ralphlauren.com.

Fashion V Sports Exhibition

V&A is staging the Fashion V Sport exhibition this summer! Exploring the connection and association of fashion and sports will be part of this. This will show how to street style give a big part on both industry.

The exhibition will showcase around 60 outfits from leading designers. It will also illustrate how designers like Dries van Noten and Kim Jones have reworked sportswear staples such as the grey jersey tracksuit into high fashion items.

An exhibition of DARE, DISPLAY, PLAY, and DESIRE:

Dare: Technical Innovation

Function and high performance are of primary concern in the design of sportswear. Companies invest a considerable amount of time and money into researching performance-enhancing garments and footwear.

Recently, fashion designers have integrated many of these technologies into their designs, often in direct collaboration with sports corporations. At the same time, sportswear has become increasingly fashionable and self-aware, often looking back at its own design history.

Display: Individuality and Uniformity

Sportswear or sports-inspired fashion may seem a uniform mode of dress. There is nothing more ubiquitous than a pair of trainers, a hooded jersey top and a pair of tracksuit bottoms. However, individuality is expressed through subtle differences and modifications. This section explores how homemade street adaptations - such as how laces are tied and adorned, or how tracksuits are worn - have inspired designers to reinterpret trainers and the tracksuit. It also looks at how the practice of customising has motivated the production of industrially customised goods sold by major sports companies.

Play: Exaggeration and Vibrancy

Sportswear first crossed over into casual wear because it was comfortable and affordable. Since then it has increasingly acquired its own sartorial language, one that is based on patterns and colours of performance sportswear but is often playful and highly exaggerated.

In manipulating the idea of sportswear, designers have pushed the boundaries of what trainers and sports clothes can look like. Witty, ironic and sophisticated, their work reflects the equally inventive customisation of sportswear that can be seen on the street.

Desire: Obsessive Behaviour

The area where fashion and sportswear coexist most comfortably is in the advertising and consumption of menswear and sport-related products. From case studies of a designer's obsession with football, via one-off, limited edition or cult design pieces, to expensive trainer and tracksuit collections, this section pinpoints the place in which sportswear's function has become almost redundant and instead its fashionability has become the key feature.

USA’s Olympics Sports Clothing by Nike

As the world prepares for the challenge of the Olympics, players are for sure ready to compete and show their long and painful hard work. Working and training hard is one of the key in reaching their target, but for Nike, a well formed athlete will be performing in an edge level when geared with their latest technology in sports clothing.

Aerographics

USA Sports ClothingAt Nike, less is always more, and that principle led to the creation of Aerographics, an engineered mesh that can remove up to half the yarn in a garment. Typically, adding a mesh panel to a shirt means sewing in mesh and adding seams that can bunch and chafe.

Instead, Aerographics allows designers to incorporate mesh directly into a garment without any extra materials. In fact, this new technique cuts weight by reducing the amount of material, while adding comfort and passive cooling to the garment itself. With Aerographics, athletes will be cooler just by dint of wearing the garment—no small matter given the heat and humidity in Beijing in August.

Aerographics uses a unique process to remove unnecessary fibers wherever you want only mesh on a garment. But, what makes Aerographics truly special is that, for the first time Nike can make a garment cooler while adding fully functional, country specific graphics designs. This unique process opens up a new door to create functional graphics relevant and unique to each Federation.

This technology will embrace the body of the athlete of the USA team especially in basketball and track and field division.

Flywire

Nike ShoesIn addition to Team USA’s uniform design, Kobe Bryant of the basketball team will be wearing the new USA Nike Hyperdunk colorway. The Nike Hyperdunk is 18 percent lighter than the average Nike basketball shoe and is the lightest and strongest basketball shoe Nike has ever created.

Imagine a paper-thin shoe, no more than two microns thick, whose only support comes from threads. This is Flywire. A revolutionary technology, its high-strength threads work like cables on a suspension bridge with support engineered precisely where a foot needs it. Flywire allowed Nike to make its lightest and strongest footwear ever, transforming how footwear is engineered by reducing the amount of material required for the upper of a shoe to the bare minimum. Thanks to this innovation, track spikes with Flywire are now under 100g – a weight never before achieved – without compromising on durability or integrity and support.

Such a precise placement of the Flywire filaments means the uppers are more like a second skin. The fabric is only there to keep out rocks and dirt. The threads provide all the support, and the new footwear provides a solution to what had been an unsolvable problem—slippage.

Walk or run in a shoe and with each step your foot slips. Your foot pulls back maybe just a millimeter, but over the course of a race those millimeters add up. Assuming a meter stride, over 1000 meters, could potentially equal a whole meter savings at the finish line—no small amount when the difference between first and third place is less than that.

New Sports Clothing for Oregon State University

For the season 2008, Oregon State University will be wearing a new football uniform. It will be a flash back to the history and heritage of the school as Nike, the sponsor of this sports clothing, hook up a traditional football jersey design.

This jersey will be available for the fans starting on August 28 before the first game at Stanford and can be ordered in advance through the new game-day and online apparel store for Oregon State Athletics

Though classic with its design, this clothing will still use the latest technology used by Nike.

Innovative fit - the new jersey has an updated design and incorporates new performance fabrics producing a tight shrink-wrapped fit. This minimizes grab points.

Weight reduction - both the jersey and pants are significantly lighter weight. Players are carrying less weight throughout the course of a game.

Improved moisture management - both jerseys and pants are produced with fabrics that hold far less moisture, thus carrying less weight.

Increased ventilation - light weight mesh is added in areas traditionally covered by non-breathable fabrics. In the upper back neck and under arms where heat can escape (areas not covered by thick plastic & foam shoulder pads).

New Vols Road Uniform

If the specs are correct, it appears that the old-school orange pants from the days of Johnny Majors may make a big comeback for the road games this season. That’s a HUGE change seeing how the Vols haven’t worn the orange pants with the white stripes since 1992. They’ve always worn the white-on-white under Fulmer, but apparently, the buzz surrounding the orange-on-orange that UT wore in the SEC Championship Game last year was considerable enough for adidas to make some changes.

Also, noticeably absent from these specs are the black uniforms that all the youngsters/Georgia wannabes want the Vols to adopt.

The other subtle but welcome changes are as follows:

1.) The name on the back of the road jerseys will now be in orange (according to the specs) — just like the old days — rather than the black that UT has sported in the recent past.

2.) The numbers will be on the sleeves rather than the shoulders.

Again, notice the adidas logo on the bottom. These are authentic specs, and while we here at 3SIB cannot guarantee that the orange pants will ever be worn on the field, they are assuredly an option since adidas has made them.
